We seek a highly motivated post-doctoral neuroscientist to investigate olfactory processing in the rodent brain in the Sensory and Behavioural Neuroscience Unit ( at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) Graduate University, in Okinawa, Japan. The position is for a project that investigates circuit functions of the olfactory system, in the context of olfactory behaviours. As such, a prospective post-doctoral researcher will use a combination of electrophysiology, optogenetics, head-fixed behaviours or two-photon microscopy/in vivo optical methods, depending on the interest and the skill.

OIST is an international research institute without departments (, providing a unique opportunity for multi-disciplinary collaborations. The working language in the lab, as well as of the institute, is English. A wide range of post-doctoral training schemes are available (

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in neurobiology, biophysics, or other relevant disciplines. Candidates with experience with electrophysiology or functional imaging in vitro and/or in vivo preparations are especially encouraged to apply. Ability to program in Matlab and/or Labview is desirable but not a strict requirement.

The post will be full-time
Contract will be for 2-3 years initially with a possibility to extend up to 5 years.
Salary: Starting from JPY 4,458,000
Housing subsidy and relocation allowance will be given.
