Description

Molecular organization of brain circuits.

The Meletis laboratory at Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neuroscience, has an open position for a PhD student to investigate the molecular identity and organization of brain circuits that are relevant for motivated behavior and decision-making, including molecular changes in neuron subtypes found in models of addiction and mood disorders.

We currently investigate the identity, connectivity, and in vivo function of neuron subtypes in striatal circuits, lateral hypothalamus, and lateral habenula, focusing on how the function of neuron subtypes in circuits shape motivated behaviors.

The PhD student will learn to use and develop state-of-the-art approaches to define identity of neurons subtypes and brain regions (e.g. snRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics), develop new mouse models, and define cell-type specific connectivity using viral approaches.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work in a stimulating and highly collaborative environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure.

We expect applicants to have a strong academic track record and the determination to contribute to mapping and understanding of circuits, with experimental experience and interest in molecular techniques, neuroanatomy, data analysis and visualization.
