The position is scientifically integrated into the Mainz/Frankfurt Neuroscience Network (see:, which has a strong focus on cellular mechanisms of neural homeostasis. The project will be part of the Frankfurt/Mainz SFB: CRC1080, C02 and offers lots of scientific interactions.

The successful candidate has access to state-of-the-art techniques like in vitro and in vivo electrophysiology and "miniaturized in vivo endoscopy" to monitor neuronal activity over weeks by chronic calcium imaging ("Miniscope"). These methods will be used in specific transgenic mouse models to study neuronal hyperexcitability and mechanisms of neuronal homeostasis (Ellwardt et al., Nat.Neurosci, 2018) in somatosensory cortical circuits in a mouse model of unilateral focal traumatic brain injury (TBI) (Le Prieult et al., J.Neurotrauma, 2017).

We offer an interdisciplinary environment with regular seminar series, additional workshop courses, collaborations with other labs/clinics in the Mainz/Frankfurt area, you will get full support to receive the German academic degree "Habilitation".

This position requires standard teaching in the field of Physiology for Medical students in German language.
