A special event was held on Thursday 11th July in Belgrade (Serbia), as part of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) Regional Meeting 2019, to launch the ALBA Network and spotlight some of the key issues it will address.
Professor Mara Dierssen (President of the Trisomy 21 Research Society, Center for Genomic Regulation, Barcelona, Spain) and Professor Carmen Sandi (FENS President and Chair of ALBA Steering Committee) co-chaired the event.
In her talk, Prof. Dierssen explained why gender bias and the lack of diversity were harmful to neuroscience. Prof. Sandi introduced the Network, its mission and activities that will be developed to foster equality and diversity in brain sciences.
Brain scientists from all over the globe are invited to join this Network and take part in this new initiative. The Network is supported by FENS, the International Brain Research Organization and the Society for Neuroscience.
