Research Interests

I am interested in how internal states of the organisms and their interactions with the external world influence behavior. More specifically, my lab studies how stress changes the molecular mechanisms underlying fear memories in the brain of both mice and humans. Additionally, we aim to understand sex differences in these fear memory circuits. We believe that improving our knowledge of the fear memory mechanisms and circuits will help to translate basic findings into the clinic. Thus, we could find more effective treatments for patients suffering anxiety and fear-based disorders such as Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic disorder or specific phobias.
