Research interests

In my lab we develop and utilize computational models and tools to investigate the role of dendrites in learning and memory. I am particularly interested in understanding how dendrites and their integrative properties contribute to different learning and memory functions. Towards this goal, my team and I build abstract mathematical as well as detailed biophysical models of neural cells and circuits across multiple brain regions (hippocampus, amygdala, PFC, V1) and abstraction levels (single neurons, microcircuits, large scale neuronal networks). We then use these models to study how the anatomical, biophysical and plasticity properties of dendrites contribute to functions such as associative learning, working memory, pattern recognition/separation and orientation tuning. We work in close collaboration with experimental labs that provide data for constraining the models and subsequently test certain experimental predictions.
