I am interested in understanding how brain responds to asphyxia/ischemia and reperfusion, and to altered states of excitability, in immature and mature brain, in in vivo (perinatal asphyxia, cerebral ischemia, experimental epilepsy) and in vitro (oxygen-glucose deprivation) experimental paradigms. By investigating epigenetic, genetic, biochemical, electrophysiological and behavioral aspects of brain response to various metabolic and environmental stressors during different developmental stages, I am looking towards brain recovery and neuroprotective strategies. In the context of perinatal asphyxia, I am investigating the way gestational and perinatal factors are influencing offspring’s brain development, and what strategies could be used to improve the short- and long-term outcomes.
