Deadline: 10 April 2023
Employment Start Date: 1 June 2023
Contract Length: 31/12/2025
City: Berlin
Country: Germany
Institution: Free University Berlin

Description:
The Hiesinger lab conducts research on the development and maintenance of synaptic brain connectivity using the Drosophila model system. We offer an opportunity for scientific work, discussions and personal development in an international team. The Hiesinger lab is an ERC-funded lab with integration into several research consortia. Our research projects are conceptually demanding with the goal to open the door for motivated scientists to develop a scientific career. Extension of the contract is possible depending on a second funding period of the research unit Syntophagy For further information please visit flygen.org.
We offer a graduate student position in the context of the research consortium ‘Syntophagy’ (syntophagy.de). The goal of our project ‘Autophagic regulation of synapse formation and function’ is to understand neuronal autophagy at synapses in the Drosophila brain. We use advanced genetic and imaging technology, including multi-photon live imaging, computational modeling and molecular genetics. Within the context of this project towards a doctoral degree we offer significant opportunities for the development of new ideas.
Master in Biology or equivalent degree in biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics or related fields; excellent written and spoken English are required.
