Applications are invited for a PhD student position in a grant funded research project of the ENT Department at the Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin, Center for Applied Medical Technology (head PD Dr. Dietmar Basta), Hospital of the Charité University Medicine Berlin, starting in October 2023.

The topic of the research project is the investigation of neurodegeneration and neuroplasticity in the peripheral and central auditory system in a mouse and guinea pig model of hearing loss. In addition, aspects of rehabilitation by a cochlear implant would be analyzed. The techniques include audiometric measurements, immunostaining and fluorescence/confocal microscopy.

Beyond basic interest in the research topics of the project, the successful candidate should hold an MSc or equivalent degree in Neuroscience or related field (e.g. Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Medicine, Veterinary Medicine). Moreover, previous experience with animal handling (e. g. FELASA-B) and basic histological methods would be highly beneficial.
