“Mechanisms of microvascular dysfunction after stroke”
A Ph.D. position funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and University of Zurich is available starting 10/2023 for a recent Masters graduate in Psychology, Biology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, or similar. You will study the effects of focal brain ischemia and stroke treatments on the microvascular network neuronal damage and functional outcome in rodent models of stroke. You will be using advanced optical imaging techniques as well as histological and molecular biology methods. Further, you will analyze stroke patient blood and clot material for indicators of vascular stalls and inflammation. The goal of the project is to understand mechanisms of microvascular dysfunction after stroke. You will be part of a translational research team and participate in the ZNZ doctoral program.

Education/ Requirements
The project is inspired by an important clinical problem; so a genuine interest in cerebrovascular disease and translational research is crucial. Previous experience with in-vivo disease models, imaging and data analysis tools would be beneficial. The successful applicant will have an excellent academic record to-date, enjoy inter-disciplinary research, and be suited to team work as well as being able to work well independently.
