Postdoc in Neuron-glia interactions and extracellular matrix post-stroke

Position: Post-doctoral Position

Deadline: 10 December 2023

Employment Start Date: 1 February 2024

Contract Length: 2-3 years with possibilty of extension

City: Essen

Country: Germany

Institution: University Hospital Essen

Department: Neurology

The Postdoc position is available in the Research group “Neuron-glia interactions and extracellular matrix post-stroke” at the Neurology Department of University Hospital Essen. We previously demonstrated that the remodeling of the extracellular matrix (ECM) by microglia and astrocytes plays a critical role in post-stroke neuroplasticity and recovery, representing a promising yet underexplored target for stroke therapies. Now, we are developing innovative translational treatments that promote brain plasticity and recovery after stroke by modulating ECM remodeling and ECM-glia interactions.

The new colleague will benefit from a highly collaborative international environment, cutting-edge equipment, local tuition programs, and ample networking possibilities. Depending on interest and starting skills, the applicant will be offered to join the in vivo or the in vitro team. The successful applicant should be:

  • Strongly interested in neuron-glia interactions, brain ECM, and stroke recovery;
  • Have a strong publication track in a related area;
  • Have a PhD degree in Biology/Biomedicine/Biophysics/Neuroscience or related field;
  • Fluent in English written and spoken;
  • Skilled in at least 2 of the following experimental techniques*:

–          Mammalian cell culture

–          hiPSC culture

–          ICH and fluorescent microscopy

–          Live-cell imaging

–          Patch-clamp electrophysiology
