A thalamocortical circuit for deciding in uncertain environments

Position: Post-doctoral Position

Deadline: 31 January 2025

Contract Length: 2 years (extension possible)

City: Bordeaux

Country: France

Institution: University of Bordeaux

Department: Bordeaux Neurocampus

Description:

A two-year postdoctoral position, with the possibility of extension, is available to work in the Decision and Adaptation (DECAD) team at the Bordeaux Neurocampus, at the “Institut de Neurosciences Cognitives et Intégratives d’Aquitaine” (INCIA, CNRS UMR 5287).

The proposed research aims to enhance our understanding of the functional dynamics within a thalamocortical circuit that includes the orbitofrontal cortex, the mediodorsal thalamus, and their interconnections in the context of adaptive decision-making in volatile environments. This project builds on a recently developed three-armed bandit task for rats, designed to investigate how subjects flexibly transition between different strategies, such as exploration and exploitation.

Requirements:  A strong drive and willingness to collaborate within a team environment are essential. Previous experience in one or preferably more of the following areas is required: viral strategies, fiber photometry, data analysis and modelling.

Work environment: The DECAD team offers a vibrant and stimulating research environment, providing extensive opportunities for both national and international collaboration. Bordeaux Neurocampus is a major European hub for neuroscience, home to over 800 staff members and more than 50 research teams. The campus is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to support advanced animal research. The DECAD team is based in a brand-new research building, featuring extensive and well-equipped spaces specifically designed for animal research.

Contact: Interested candidates should submit their CV, a cover letter detailing their research experience and motivation, and contact information for at least two references. Applications should be sent to Mathieu Wolff: mathieu.wolff@u-bordeaux.fr

The starting date is flexible, but ideally, the position would commence no later than early 2025.
