A PhD position in neuroscience is available in the laboratory of Prof. Chichung Lie at the Institute of Biochemistry FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg.
Our laboratory studies the regulatory mechanisms controlling the generation of neurons in health and disease using transgenic mouse models and human stem cell-based model systems. For this project, we are seeking a highly motivated student interested in investigating the molecular pathomechanisms in Sox11-linked Coffin-Siris-Syndrome, a complex neurodevelopmental disorder. In this highly collaborative project with the laboratories of Profs. Karow and Winner, we use Crispr/Cas9 modified human pluripotent stem cells to model the impact of Sox11 variants on the generation and function of distinct neuronal subtypes. State-of-the-art techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry and neurophysiology, including RNA-seq and multielectrode array recordings will be used.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, knowledge-driven student with a Master degree in Molecular Medicine, Biology or related fields. Candidates should have a strong background in Neurobiology or Developmental Biology.
The doctoral researcher will be part of the ForInter Research Consortium and there is the possibility for association with the DFG-Research Training Group 2162, which provides a structured curriculum and a wide range of scientific training opportunities.
