PhD program in Novara, Italy
Position: Ph.D. Student
Deadline: 28 June 2021
Contract Length: three years
Institution: University of Piemonte Orientale
Applications are now being accepted for the 3 year-PhD program in Drug Innovation at the Dept of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Piemonte Orientale, Novara, Italy, in the Laboratory of Neuroplasticity (https://labgrilli.wixsite.com/home).
We are seeking for a talented, highly motivated and intellectually curious student to study novel mechanisms that are involved in adult neuro(glia)plasticity at the cellular, molecular and behavioural level. Specifically, we are interested in how adult neural stem cells and other cells within neurogenic niches, including glia and immune cells, may communicate and respond to endogenous and exogenous signals to ensure homeostasis under physiological conditions. In parallel we want to explore how this homeostasis may be disrupted in relevant CNS disorders (Alzheimer’s disease, major depression) and actively pursue whether this disruption may represent a valuable target for therapeutic interventions.
The project will require application and learning of state of the art in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo approaches in murine animal models.
Previous background in the neurobiology field and/or in neuropharmacology is required. Moreover prior experience in cellular and molecular neuroscience and/or in animal models for neurological diseases and/or behavioural tests will represent a preferential asset during candidate evaluation.
Successful candidates should also have:
- Excellent University degree
- Creative thinking skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Proactive attitude
- Very good knowledge of written and oral English language
• Excellent scientific and technical infrastructures
• Opportunity to participate in international project meetings and conferences
• In addition to scientific mentoring by your advisor, further development of your personal strengths, via a comprehensive training programme in a multidisciplinary environment.
Applications should include: a CV detailing your previous knowledge and expertise, a cover letter stating your motivations and your personal goals, contact details of two references, sent as a single PDF to Mariagrazia Grilli (email@example.com) by the end of June 2021.
