Post-doctoral fellowship

Position: Post-doctoral Position

Deadline: 30 September 2021

Employment Start Date: 1 December 2021

Contract Length: 1 year

City: Trento

Country: Italy

Institution: Università degli Studi di Trento

Department: CIBIO

Description:

One postdoctoral fellow/research associate position is available until filled in the laboratory of Professor Giovanni Piccoli in the Department CIBIO at the University of Trento (Trento, Italy to study the role of the adhesion protein Negr1 in neurodevelopmental disorders.

Neurodevelopmental disorders are characterized by neuronal-connectivity disruption. Strong genetic data link the adhesion protein Negr1to intellectual disabilities, ASD, and mood disorder. Negr1 is a GPI-anchored adhesion protein which expression is tightly modulated during neuron maturation. Our studies indicate that Negr1 acts as membrane bound molecule as well as soluble factor to regulate neuronal morphological maturation via RTK activation. We plan to characterize the pathway modulated by Negr1 in vitro and in vivo.

In recent years, new studies from our lab and others have shown the emerging roles of Negr1 in physiological and pathological CNS development. Our lab has developed new tools for in vivo and in vitro mechanistic investigations of Negr1.

Candidates who have previous experience with primary neuronal cultures and/or iPSC are encouraged to apply. It is expected that the candidate should have a PhD in Neuroscience or a related discipline (Biochemistry/Cell Biology/Genetics) and is able to communicate well with others.

To apply, please send a CV (via e-mail) including all past education and training, a brief description of research interests, list of publications, other scientific activities, and names and e-mail addresses of three references to prof. Giovanni Piccoli giovanni.piccoli@unitn.it

Prof. Piccoli’s lab is located at CIBIO.  CIBIO was founded in 2007 as a research Centre of the University of Trento on the premises of strategic local funding in the province with the higher investment in R&I in Italy. Is began a Department of University on 2018 and is now a cutting-edge and top-ranked academic institute in biomedicine and biotechnology. CIBIO has recently grown to 40 Research Laboratories headed by successful and independent Principal Investigators. The Department is at the top of rankings for quality of the research among National academic institutes in the area of Biological Sciences.

The University of Trento is an Equal Opportunity Affirmative Action Employer. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
