Research Assistant (PhD student) in Insect Neurobiology (m/f/d)

commencing at the earliest possible date. (full advert in German and English)


the RA (PhD student) will play a significant role in ensuring the success of a DFG-funded neuroethological research project on the evolution of intraspecific communication in crickets and its susceptibility to neonicotinoid insecticides.

Your responsibilities:

  • You will learn and establish all experimental techniques and methods required for the project under competent mentoring
  • You will work closely together with the project’s PI to plan and conduct the experiments, analyse the data and prepare the scientific publications
  • Based on your research success in our project you will aspire personal scientific qualification via doctorate at the FSU Jena

Your profile

  • You have an excellent university Master’s degree in Biology with special focus in zoology and/or neuroscience
  • You are highly motivated and have a strong interest to conduct neurophysiological experiments with orthopteroid insects (crickets)
  • Ideally, you would already have some practical experience or knowledge in one or several of the following topics: electrophysiology (intra-/extracellular recordings), bioacoustics, biotremology, sensory physiology, neuroethology, computer programming
