Job ID: 59819
postdoctoral fellow position in Neuroscience (vestibular system and cognitive neuroscience / electrophysiology)
Position: Post-doctoral Position
Deadline: 30 December 2021
Employment Start Date: 1 October 2021
Contract Length: 3 years
Institution: French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS)
Department: Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience, Aix-Marseille University
A postdoctoral fellow position in Neuroscience is immediately available in Lopez’ team at the Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience (https://lnc.univ-amu.fr/en) to work on the ANR-funded VESTISELF project focused on the vestibular and multisensory contributions to own-body and self perception. The Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience is housed within Aix-Marseille University located on Saint-Charles Campus in Marseille, France, and is part of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS).
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of neuroscientists, electrophysiologists and medical doctors, that uses approaches from vestibular neurophysiology, otoneurology, cognitive neuroscience, neuropsychology, electroencephalography (EEG) and virtual reality. The fellow will receive mentoring from Dr Christophe Lopez, vestibular neuroscientist from the CNRS, who coordinates the VESTISELF Project (https://lnsc.fr/equipe/equipe-corps-et-multisensorialite/lopez-christophe/) and from Dr Maya Elzière, MD specialized in otoneurology and vestibular disorders. The project is conducted in close collaboration with Prof Bigna Lenggenhager, from the University of Zurich, international partner of the VESTISELF Project (https://www.psychology.uzh.ch/en/areas/nec/kogneuro/team/bigna-lenggenhager.html), as well as with Prof. Fabrice Bartolomei, neurologist and head of the Clinical Neurophysiology and Epileptology Department at Timone Hospital (http://fr.ap-hm.fr/service/epileptologie-et-rythmologie-cerebrale-hopital-timone), and Dr Christian Bénar, Head of the Dynamap Team (https://ins-amu.fr/dynamap), in Marseille, France, partners of the VESTISELF Project.
The fellow will pursue a project investigating the relations between the vestibular system and the sense of self, using behavioral approaches in large cohorts of patients with dizziness and vertigo (at the European Hospital, Marseille), EEG recordings in patients and healthy participants, and virtual reality. General research questions are: How is the sense of self and own-body representations altered in patients with vestibular disorders? How does the brain processes various sensory signals related to self-location and embodiment?
A PhD in neuroscience or related discipline is required, as well as previous expertise in vestibular neuroscience and/or cognitive neuroscience of the self and body representations are required, and expertise with human electrophysiology, especially EEG, and programming skills are requested.
The position is immediately available (starting date can be adapted) and is funded for a period of 3 years. Payment is according to the guidelines of French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS).
Interested candidates should send a letter of motivation (with a short summary of research accomplishments, career goals, research interests), a curriculum vitae (with detailed technical and programming expertise), Master certificates (including a list of classes taken during Bachelor and Master studies), letters of references and contact information for 3 references, before September 30th, 2021. Applications should be submitted in a single PDF file to the email addresses below. All information or questions regarding the position should be submitted electronically and firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com and M.ELZIERE@hopital-europeen.fr and firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line “Postdoctoral Position 2: VESTISELF PROJECT”.
