The IIT-NmCS research line applies a multiscale neuroscience approach to investigate the cellular mechanisms and fundamental principles of synaptic neuromodulation, and to resolve the spatiotemporal dynamic of behaviorally relevant neuromodulatory signals at circuit- and system level resolution.
The successful applicant will be working on collaborative and multidisciplinary research projects to understand how defined micro- and macrocircuits of the brain respond to synaptic neuromodulators to shape aspects of motor and reward-guided behaviors, both in health and disease state (psychomotor and affective disorders).
To this purpose, the candidate will apply neurophysiological, optogenetic and chemogenetic approaches (ex vivo and in vivo), together with state-of-the art imaging techniques (miniscope imaging and fiber photometry) to monitor neuromodulatory signals during behavioral paradigms.
Expertise in neurophysiology and optogenetics, combined with viral-based approaches to deconstruct and manipulate neuronal circuits ex-vivo and in-vivo is a mandatory prerequisite. Previous experience with large-scale neuronal imaging in-vivo and programming (Python or MATLAB), together with signal processing expertise appropriate for the analysis of neuronal activity, will be highly valued.
