The University of Cologne, Faculty of Medicine, posts the position of a Professorship (W2) for Cellular Neuroscience/Cellular Neurophysiology as per the requirements outlined in § 36 of the Universities act of North Rhine-Westphalia (HG NRW). The position is to be filled by April 1, 2022.

The professorship is a part of Neuroscience reseach area at the Medical Faculty. The successful candidate will actively participate in teaching of Neuroscience for medi-cal students and in related teaching programms of the Medical Faculty. The primary objective of the new ap-pointment is the development of an internationally com-petitive research programme that is strongly complement-ing the focus research areas of the Medical Faculty. Close interactions with Collaborative Research Centers and Research Units of the DFG on campus, the local Max Planck Institutes for Biology of Ageing and Metabolism Research, the Cologne Excellence Cluster CECAD and centers such as the Cologne Center for Genomics (CCG), the Center for Integrated Oncology (CIO), the Center of Molecular Medicine Cologne (CMMC) as well as the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) and the Research Center Jülich are expected.

The successful candidate is expected to have an out-standing record of academic achievements in cellular or systems neurophysiology and/or neurosciences. Scientific excellence, a particular commitment to teaching Neuro-science and the motivation to actively contribute to the development of the model university course of the Faculty of Medicine are presumed.

Social skills, the capacity to work in multidisciplinary teams, to apply for third-party research funds and to initi-ate joint research projects are prerequisites. Further re-quirements for application include a postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or equivalent.
