Description:
A PhD student position is available at the Cognitive Neurophysiology group at Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN) and German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) Magdeburg, Germany.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate interested in cellular mechanisms and neural computation underlying spatial navigation and working memory functions.
Previous lab experience in in-vivo electrophysiology, patch-clamp recordings, and data analysis (coding with Matlab and Python) will be an advantage.
Our research focus is on understanding cellular dynamics and signal processing in the hippocampus and the entorhinal cortex that support temporal and spatial cognitive functions. We combine in vitro patch-clamp recordings and in vivo single-unit recordings in free-behaving animals, with molecular manipulations to study the effect of dynamical properties of individual neurons on cognitive functions.
The group is multinational and candidates of all nationalities are encouraged to apply. A master’s degree or equivalent is required, and candidates must be fluent in English.
Please send (1) a letter describing your lab experiences and techniques, scientific interests, (2) a CV and (3) names of three references to Dr. Motoharu Yoshida: motoharu.yoshida@lin-magdeburg.de.
