Neurophysiology (Energy metabolism, Neuroinflammation)

Position: Post-doctoral Position

Deadline: 31 July 2022

Employment Start Date: 1 September 2022

Contract Length: Two years (with option of extension)

City: Heidelberg

Country: Germany

Institution: University of Heidelberg

Department: Physiology and Pathophysiology

A postdoc/scientific assistant position (f/m/d) is offered in the Research Group “General Neurophysiology” (Prof. Dr. Oliver Kann) at the Institute of Physiology and Pathophysiology, University of Heidelberg.

The experimental research group deals with neuronal activity patterns, such as gamma oscillations, which are related to perception, attention and memory. There is special interest in the two research focuses (i) neuronal energy metabolism and (ii) neuroinflammation (Ta et al., Proc Natl Acad Sci USA, 2019; Hollnagel et al., iScience, 2020; Schilling et al., Brain Behav Immun, 2021). The group is interdisciplinary and offers an intensive scientific atmosphere with a broad spectrum of established methods (electrophysiology, fluorescence imaging, oxymetry, ELISA, brain slice preparations etc.).

Applicants should have theoretical and practical experience in electrophysiology, live-cell fluorescence imaging and/or ‘real-time metabolism’ in brain tissue (slices and/or in vivo mouse models), including data analysis. The future position holder will carry out an original project within one of the two research focuses of the group and apply for research funding. The position is associated with regular teaching in Physiology (4 hours per week) in German or English language as well as experimental supervision of MD/PhD students. The future positon holder should seek for a postdoctoral lecture qualification (habilitation) in Physiology.

The ideal applicant has an MD or PhD degree, with a postdoc in Neuroscience. The scientific qualification should be documented with publications (peer-review) in respected international journals. Teaching experience is advantageous. The position is open from 01 September 2022. The initial contract will be for two years (salary according to TV-L, E13); extension of the contract is possible.

Please, send your application (including full CV, letter of motivation, short research outline, copies of exam certificates, contact details of two scientists for references) until 31 July 2022 to:
