We are recruiting a highly-motivated student for a PhD in our team working on the engram of fast learning in the striatum using in vitro and in vivo two-photon imaging, electrophysiology and behavioral tasks in mice. We identified an endocannabinoid-mediated LTP (Cui et al., 2016 eLife; Xu et al., 2018 Nat Comm; see our review Piette et al., 2020a) as a strong candidate for the engram of fast learning (see our review Piette et al., 2020b) in striatum. The project is to provide correlative and causal demonstration of the involvement of endocannabinoid-mediated LTP in the encoding of fast learning.

The successful candidate should be highly motivated to contribute to our efforts on dissecting mechanisms of neural circuit and signaling pathways at play during fast learning. The candidate is expected to take a leading role in 2-photon imaging experiments (data acquisition and analysis), aligned with plasticity and behavioral performance. Experience with 2-photon imaging, electrophysiology, data analysis and programming experience are a significant plus.

The position will be financed by ANR grants from L Venance for 3 years.

Our laboratory is located at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Biology of the College de France – a world-class research institute which accommodates 16 interdisciplinary research groups and part of the PSL University. Work in the Venance Lab is supported by state-of-the-art facilities in optical imaging, FabLab, histology, mechanic workshop, genomics.
