PhD Student in Neurobiology of Birdsong
Position: Ph.D. Student
Deadline: 30 November 2022
Institution: University of Tübingen
Department: Institute for Neurobiology
A Ph.D. position is available in the laboratory for Neurobiology of Vocal Communication (Jun-Prof. Dr. Lena Veit) at the Institute of Neurobiology, University of Tübingen.
The lab focuses on neural circuits involved in flexible sequencing of birdsong. Songbirds are an important animal model for studying learned vocalizations and motor control in general. We are combining neuroethological approaches with behavior training and in vivo electrophysiology to understand how finches learn and modify the sequence of their vocalizations.
The Institute of Neurobiology and the wider neuroscientific environment in Tübingen provide an ideal and stimulating environment for successful PhD students. The student will be able to have a structured education through the Graduate Training Center for Neuroscience, with the possibility to apply for the IMPRS Neural Mechanisms of Mental Function and Dysfunction (3-year program). For further information about Tübingen, see
• M.Sc. in Neuroscience, Biology, Cognitive Science, Bioinformatics, or similar
• responsibility in working with animals
• programming skills in Matlab or Python
Applications should include a short letter specifying your research interests, CV, copies of relevant certificates and the contact details of two references in a single pdf.
