AgustinDr Agustin Ibañez

Director, Latin American Brain Health Institute (BrainLat), Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, Santiago, Chile; and Associate professor, Global Brain Health Institute (GBHI), Trinity College Dublin, Ireland – has been honoured with the ALBA-Elsevier Award Lecture on Brain Sciences 2023 in recognition of his significant contribution to brain health education and research.

His research focuses on the development of affordable cognitive neuroscience approaches to improve dementia characterization in Latin America and to identify novel avenues to treat neurodegeneration in diverse populations. As someone who is interested in global approaches to dementia and social, cognitive and affective neuroscience, Dr Ibañez has developed important regional initiatives such as the multi-partner consortium to expand dementia research in Latin America (ReDLat) and the Latin American and Caribbean Consortium on Dementia (LAC-CD). With extensive support from prominent international stakeholders, these collaborations have enabled multicentric comparisons of genetic, cognitive, social and socioeconomic determinants that drive brain health.

The ALBA-Elsevier Award Lecture Selection Committee would like to congratulate Dr Ibañez for his pioneering and impactful work and encourages him to continue his efforts.

Dr Ibañez will give a Special Lecture at the FENS Forum 2024, 25-29 June 2024, in Vienna, Austria.
