The ALBA Network

Founded in 2018 by a group of  leading scientists, the ALBA Network aims to foster equity and diversity in brain science.

Despite growing interest in diversity-related issues, inequities exist and persist: talented scientists are excluded from opportunities in brain research due to their sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, race, nationality, religion- or culture, that bear no relationship to their potential to succeed.

ALBA believes that diversity is a fundamental component of excellence, and that access to education, training, resources, mentoring and work should be based on an individual’s potential.

The goals of the network are to

  • Share best practices to counteract bias
  • Recognise outstanding contributions to science and diversity
  • Provide networking and mentoring opportunities
  • Support career development of  members of underrepresented groups.

The Network is supported by FENS, IBRO, SfN and sponsored by The Brain Prize. The ALBA Network is administered by FENS.
