Through the attribution of awards, FENS and partner organisations honour the work and career of outstanding neuroscientists and their commitment to fostering new careers.

FENS-EJN Award

The FENS-EJN Award is awarded biennially in recognition of outstanding scientific work in any area of neuroscience. The awardee receives a personal prize, writes a review for publication in the European Journal of Neuroscience and gives a lecture at the FENS Forum.

FENS-EJN Early Career Investigator Prize

The FENS-EJN Early Career Investigator Prize is awarded biennially to an early career researcher in recognition of their outstanding scientific contributions to any area of neuroscience.

EJN Best Publication Award

The EJN Best Publication Award recognises the best research article published in EJN over the preceding two‐year period. This biennial award is bestowed upon the first author(s) of the selected article who receive a personal prize and give a lecture at the FENS Regional Meeting.

Eric Kandel Young Neuroscientists Prize

Awarded by the Hertie Foundation and FENS, the Eric Kandel Young Neuroscientists Prize recognises the work of outstanding early career neuroscientists and helps advance their careers as researchers. The prize is named after American Nobel Prize winner Prof. Eric Kandel, and is awarded every two years.

Boehringer Ingelheim FENS Research Award

Sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim, the Boehringer Ingelheim FENS Research Award is given in recognition of outstanding and innovative scientific work from all areas of neuroscience research. The awardee receives a personal prize and gives a lecture at the FENS Forum.

The Chica and Heinz Schaller Foundation Award in Translational Neuroscience

Recognising significant achievements by an individual in translational science. The winner is required to give a lecture at the FENS Forum and serve on the selection committee of up to 3 future Chica and Heinz Schaller Foundation Awards.

FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence PhD Thesis Prize

Every second year, the FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence awards a PhD Thesis Prize to honour a young neuroscientist for their outstanding PhD thesis.

FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence Mentoring Prize

Every second year, the FENS-Kavli Network of Excellence awards a Mentoring Prize to honour a scientist who has demonstrated leadership in fostering the careers of neuroscientists.

ALBA-FKNE Diversity Prize

The ALBA-FKNE Diversity Prize is awarded by the ALBA Network and the FENS-Kavli Scholars to highlight a scientist or group that has made outstanding contributions to promoting equality and diversity in brain sciences.

ALBA-ELSEVIER Award Lecture on Brain Sciences

Awarded by the ALBA Network and Elsevier, this prize recognises research achievements of outstanding quality by an active brain scientist who works in countries underrepresented among neuroscience publications and conferences, and who is committed to DEI work in the field.

ALBA-ACNP Travel Awards

The ALBA-ACNP Travel Awards are given by the ALBA Network and the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) to facilitate the international attendance of young scientists in the field of neuropsychopharmacology who are ALBA members at the upcoming ACNP Meeting taking place on 3-6 December 2023 in Tampa, Florida, USA.

ALBA-Roche Research Prize for Excellence in Neuroscience

The ALBA-Roche Research Prize for Excellence in Neuroscience recognises outstanding work in brain research by mid-career scientists from underrepresented backgrounds, whose work focuses on the nervous system and may improve our understanding of the causal mechanisms of brain diseases. The inaugural ALBA-Roche Prize will be presented at the upcoming FENS Forum in Vienna, Austria on 25-29 June 2024.
