Travel grants for the Annual Meeting of the Society for Neuroscience

Status: Closed

Funding body: FENS

Application timeframe: At the same time as the SfN abstract submissions (non-Forum years only)

The call for 2025 travel grants will be open from 21 May to 4 June 2025.

In odd years, FENS offers travel grants for FENS members to attend the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN).

10 grants of 2000 EUR each are available.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • FENS member
  • Must be at least a 2nd year PhD student or a postdoctoral fellow maximum 2 years post PhD at the nomination deadline, excluding any periods of parental or (documented) health-related leave
  • Participation in the meeting with an abstract as first author and presenter

You are not eligible to receive the grant if you won a travel grant or stipend for another FENS meeting taking place in 2025. If you are selected for an SfN 2025 travel grant you will also not be eligible to receive a travel grant or stipend for another FENS meeting taking place in 2025.

Due to the current restrictions imposed on sanctioned countries, FENS is currently unable to transfer to or receive payments from individuals or entities of nationals of the following countries (regardless of their place of residence): Crimea (region of Ukraine), Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Sudan, Syria. FENS is bound by the regulations of the National Bank of Belgium, which forbid direct or indirect financial transactions with citizens from these countries for any Belgian bank.

In view of these restrictions, FENS discourages grant applications submitted by individuals of these countries. As FENS strives to advance neuroscience research and education within Europe and around the world, we strongly regret this situation and hope for changes to these sanctions.

Important:

  • The grant will be transferred to your bank account a few days after you present yourself personally at the FENS booth during the SfN 2025 meeting.
  • The travel grant will be paid by bank transfer. Other methods of transfer (cash, Paypal, etc) are not possible.
  • If the awardee does not personally come to the SfN meeting (illness, not obtaining a visa, etc.), the travel grant will not be awarded and cannot be transferred to another person, even if they are presenting the same abstract. We recommend booking refundable travel and accommodation.

Please note the FENS travel grant application is separate from the registration and abstract submission process of the SfN meeting. Submitting a travel grant application does not mean your abstract is submitted to SfN, or that you are registered. For further support with your registration and abstract submission, please refer to the website of the SfN meeting and contact the SfN secretariat directly in case of issues.
