Post-doctoral Scientist, animal models in neuropsychopharmacology

Position: Post-doctoral Position

Deadline: 31 August 2023

Employment Start Date: 1 September 2023

Contract Length: 2 years with possibility to extend

City: Zurich

Country: Switzerland

Institution: University of Zurich

Department: Department of Psychiatry

Description:

The laboratory is within the Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics, of the Psychiatric University Hospital and University of Zurich. It is generously equipped with facilities for the conducting of rodent research in translational psychiatry and neuropsychopharmacology.

We are seeking a postdoctoral scientist to conduct research that aims to increase understanding of: (1) stress effects on the neurobiology of emotional brain-circuitry and behaviour; and (2) novel targets and mechanisms for the neuropharmacological reversal of/recovery from these stress effects.

Applicants should have a background in systems/circuits neuroscience, and a track record in the study of rodent brain-behaviour using fibre photometry and/or optogenetics. They should be able to develop and apply fibre photometry systems for the recording of neural activity during behavioural tests in one or more brain regions/pathways. Therefore, strong working knowledge of hardware (e.g. systems for fluorescence recording with (dual-)fibre photometry) and software (e.g. LabView, MATLAB) is required. Applicants should also be motivated to contribute to supervision of doctoral and masters students, and to participate actively in academic and industry collaborations.
