at the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Pathophysiology

We advertise the position of a Professor of Systems Neurobiology according to § 98 Universities Act 2002, starting in October 2024. We offer an unlimited fulltime appointment.

The position will reinforce the University´s neuroscientific focus, ensure its continuous visibility on a worldwide scientific scale and is aligned to strengthen translational research within neuroscience.

The position will be embedded in the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Pathophysiology (Biocenter Innsbruck), which offers a diverse research and infrastructure spectrum. The successful candidate is expected to represent the field of Systems Neurobiology in teaching and research. We are looking for an internationally renowned candidate who has a strong expertise in the field of systems neurobiology at the organismic level. Possible research topics include, but are not limited to the development, function/dysfunction and dynamics of neural circuits underlying behavior and/or social interactions, or sensory coding in animal model systems of neurological or psychiatric disorders.

Employment requirements:

  • MD or PhD with a doctorate relevant to the subject
  • Strong publication record
  • Expertise in state of the art techniques

  (such as optogenetics, multi-neuronal electrophysiology, CRISPR-CAS9, advanced imaging)Competence in computational approaches is welcome

  • successful acquisition of competitive third-party funding
  • teaching experience, the commitment to participate in teaching experience in leading a research group
  • leadership and management experience
  • experience in interdisciplinary research cooperation

  academic development of the curricula

  • excellent inter- and multidisciplinary research to strengthen the University´s neuroscience focus
