The DZNE in Bonn is looking for a

Data Scientist (f/m/x) in the field of Data Science/Software Engineering – Code 1261/2023/11

The ‘Functional Diversity of Neural Circuits Lab’ led by Dr. Sabine Krabbe investigates the dysfunction of neural circuits underlying early psychiatric symptoms in neurodegeneration. The team combines cutting-edge circuit neuroscience approaches such as intravital calcium imaging in mouse models with molecular and histological techniques. More information on the research group can be found here. We are looking for a Data Scientist to support the generation, maintenance and analysis of our high-dimensional data sets.

 

Your Tasks

  • Design, test, and implement workflows for automated analysis of high-dimensional data (calcium imaging, transcriptomics, mouse behaviour)
  • Support the documentation and maintenance of scientific data, their analysis and related AI/DeepLearning projects
  • Design and maintenance of internal and public repositories, including Git repositories and Python packages
  • Creation of container images (Docker/Singularity) for the distribution of software
  • Design of interfaces for data analysts and experimental neuroscientists

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, bioinformatics, natural sciences or a related field (or in the final stages of submitting the thesis)
  • Very good programming skills (especially Python and/or Matlab)
  • Experience with Git and containerisation (e.g. Docker, Singularity)
  • Interest in data and computational neuroscience
  • Good knowledge of English
  • Beneficial: experience with SLURM, Apache Spark, working with HPC environment
