The Department of Psychiatry & Psychotherapie at the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz invites applications from highly motivated candidates (m/f/d) to fill a PhD position as part of an international, interdisciplinary project to establish a biosensor for therapy response prediction of antidepressant treatment.

Your tasks:

  • Sample management and analysis of two human studies focusing on antidepressant treatment response
  • Implementation and establishment of biochemical assays
  • Performance of cell culture experiments (“back to bench”) as part of the translational part of the project
  • Data management, archiving and statistical analysis of measured values
  • Preparation and writing of scientific manuscripts
  • Communication with the European consortium partners

Requirements for the position:

  • Completed degree (diploma/master´s degree) in biology, biochemistry, biomedicine, pharmacy or a closely related discipline in Life Sciences.
  • Keen interest in scientific work and deep commitment neuroscientific/biomedical issues
  • Practical experience in enzyme assays and handling human samples would be helpful.
  • Solid understanding of basic neuro- and cell physiology is expected.
  • Self-motivated, independent, structured and conscientious working attitude as well as the ability to work in a team.
  • Very good knowledge of English and basic German, both written and spoken.
