Postdoc position in the field of protein biochemistry/translational neuroscience

Position: Post-doctoral Position

Deadline: 29 February 2024

Employment Start Date: 1 March 2024

Contract Length: 12 months + 12 months

City: Erlangen

Country: Germany

Institution: Universitätsklinikum Erlangen

Department: Department of Molecular Neurology

Description:

The groups of Prof. Dr. Friederike Zunke (Department of Molecular Neurology, University Hospital Erlangen) and PD Dr. Philipp Arnold (Functional and Clinical Anatomy, Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU)) are looking for a highly motivated PostDoc with expertise in the fields of protein biochemistry and cell biology for a translation project in the field of neurodegeneration. The position is available as soon as possible and will initially run for 12 months with a possible extension for an additional 12 month (TVL-E13, 100%). The project focuses on translational neurosciences and novel treatment strategies targeting the lysosome in neurodegenerative disorders (Parkinson’s disease in particular). The work will imply cell culture (iPS cells and iPSC-derived neurons), intracellular read out assays, immunofluorescence/microscopy, protein biochemical analyses and peptide/protein purification from eukaryotic and prokaryotic systems.

The position receives funding from the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s research.

The ideal candidate holds a degree in biochemistry/biology/neurosciences or a related field, successfully finished a PhD (or equivalent) and should be experienced in one or at best more of the following techniques: protein biochemistry (Western blot, size exclusion), recombinant protein expression and purification from eukaryotic systems, structural biology and cell biology (in particular iPS-cell culture and neuronal differentiations).

We offer a vibrant scientific environment with well-equipped laboratories at the interface between fundamental science and clinical application. The University Hospital Erlangen and the FAU are both committed to excellence in research and offer ideal opportunities to start or peruse a scientific career.
