The Beirowski lab at The Ohio State University, Wexner Medical Center, Department of Neurology & Neuroscience Research Institute is inviting applications for a fully-funded lab technician position in multidisciplinary neurodegeneration research.

 

The Beirowski lab has a unique focus on axon-glia interactions and tackles the question as to how glial metabolism regulates axon integrity (e.g., Nature Neuroscience, PMID 32807950; Nature Neuroscience, PMID 25195104; PNAS, PMID 28484008). Examples for current projects are in vivo and in vitro mechanistic studies on how metabolic perturbations in oligodendrocytes/Schwann cells result in compromised axon integrity, and research on metabolic adaptations in Schwann cells/oligodendrocytes that support the survival of injured axons.

 

Tasks:

  • General laboratory management, including servicing of equipment and lab supplies
  • Responsible for mouse colony management, including genotyping using PCR
  • Provide technical/experimental support to our international team of scientists, including standard histological techniques and handling of mice

Minimum Education and Skills/Experience Required/Desired:

Bachelor’s degree in a biological/health science or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required.
