Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with a strong interest in technical questions in the context of neuroscience and in the development of new technology. The position entails active participation within the framework of the DFG-funded research unit FOR 5424 “Modulation in Olfaction” (http://www.modolfor.de).

The project is centred on the optimization of a standardised odour delivery device (olfactometer) based on the design of a recently published precise and modular olfactometer (Ackels et al., 2021). Together with the research associate/postdoc (m/f/d), we will evaluate the specific needs of the FOR members’ laboratories in the research unit concerning their existing setups to adapt the olfactometer hardware combined with professional, standardized control software.

Requirements:

  • Completed studies or doctorate in neuroscience, engineering, physics or related disciplines
  • A professional, team-oriented and flexible working attitude
  • Strong interest in designing, developing, setting up and working with custom built equipment
  • Experience in version-controlled coding using Python and / or Matlab is desirable
  • Openness to travel between partner laboratories (e.g. Magdeburg, Bielefeld, London)
  • Fluency in English with strong communication skills to work in an interdisciplinary environment
