Job ID: 120188
Synaptic imaging and physiology
Position: Post-doctoral Position
Deadline: 6 January 2025
Employment Start Date: 6 January 2025
Contract Length: three years
City: Mainz
Country: Germany
Institution: Institute for Developmental Biology and Neurobiology Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz
Department: RG Functional Neurobiology
Description:
A postdoc position is available in the Research Group “Functional Neurobiology” at the IDN (Biozentrum I). In our group, we focus primarily on the impact of distinct molecules, such as voltage-gated calcium channels and adhesion molecules, on the formation, plasticity and computational performance of neuronal networks in health and disease. Currently, we are looking for an enthusiastic scientist interested in the structural and functional organization of central synapses and neuronal networks. The successful candidate will have a great chance to develop own projects related to the main focus of the group, as documented in recent publications (Heck et al., Neuron 2019; Heine & Holcman, TINS 2020; Bikbaev et al., J Neurosci 2020; Krick et al., PNAS 2021; Klatt et al., Cell Reports 2021, Gehlani et al. 2023, Sci Adv). The post is associated with a teaching duty (4 semester hours/week, primarily in Master Neuroscience program) and therefore offers an excellent opportunity to gain teaching experience and improve didactical skills.
What we expect from you:
- doctoral degree in Neuroscience or Molecular Biology
- expertise in imaging methods and image analysis and/or cellular electrophysiology
- good command in English and excellent writing skills
Desired skills:
- expertise in tagging and mutagenesis of synaptic molecules using CRISPR-Cas9 knock-in strategies
- experience of working with organotypic or acute brain slices from mouse
- programming experience
What we offer:
- a three-year full-time employment (EG13 TV-L) with a possibility of extension
- state-of-the-art super-resolution and localization microscopy in combination with functional analysis and a variety of electrophysiological techniques
- a very active neuroscience community within the Rhine-Main region
Applicants should send their CV, a cover letter with a detailed description of research interests, proofs of teaching experience, and two letters of reference to: marthein@uni-mainz.deemail@uni-mainz.de. For additional details, please contact Aquya Eulenburg via email: aeulenbu@uni-mainz.de.
The selection of candidates and the interviewing process will be continued until the position is filled.
