Two positions will be open:
1) (Ref. 1/2024) The fellowship in animal behavior for one year (ca. 36h/week) for students at Gdańsk University of Technology. The experimental work will take place in the Department of Animal and Human Physiology at the Faculty of Biology, University of Gdańsk.
About the position:
The work will focus on training rats in a new automated spatial memory task as part of the ongoing Polonez Bis Project, which aims to enhance memory through deep brain stimulation (DBS). It will involve investigating both spatial and social learning, as well as data curation, analysis, presentation, and the preparation of regular reports.
Eligibility and Preferred Skills:
- Students of all levels with student status at a Polish university are encouraged to apply.
- Experience working with rats, preferably accompanied by ethical courses and approvals.
- Good command in English.
- Strong interest in neuroscience, learning and memory, behavior, brain-machine interfaces, electrophysiology and deep brain stimulation.
- Curiosity-driven with a strong intrinsic motivation for research.
Benefits:
The successful candidate will receive a monthly stipend of 4000 PLN, funded by NCN. Additionally, learning modern methods of behavioral research (automatized environments, DeepLabCut), we offer a supportive environment, mentorship, and opportunities to present research results. This work may also serve as the basis for a Bachelor’s thesis.

2) (Ref. 2/2024) A full-time position in animal behavior (1.0 time; 40h/week) for two years for students at Gdańsk University of Technology. The experimental work will take place in the Department of Animal and Human Physiology at the Faculty of Biology, University of Gdańsk.
About the position:
The work will focus on training rats in a new automated spatial memory test as part of the IDUB Platinum project titled Invasive Brain-Computer Interfaces for Electrical Memory Modulation in Thalamocortical Circuits, which will launch in November 2024. The project will involve investigating both spatial and social learning, as well as data curation, analysis, preparation of regular reports, and presenting findings at scientific meetings.

- Students of all levels are encouraged to apply.
- Experience working with rats, preferably accompanied by ethical courses and approvals.
- Good command in English.

Benefits:
The successful candidate will receive a monthly salary of approximately 5000 PLN gross, funded by the IDUB Platinum program at Gdańsk University of Technology. Additionally, learning modern methods of behavioral research (automatized environments, DeepLabCut), a supportive environment, mentorship, and opportunities to present research results at international conferences, contingent upon high-quality experimental outcomes. This work may also serve as the basis for a Master’s or Bachelor’s thesis.
