Postdoctoral Researcher Position in Neuronal Circuits of Sleep and Emotions (Sleep Team, Lyon)

Position: Post-doctoral Position

Deadline: 30 November 2024

City: Lyon

Country: France

Institution: Lyon Neuroscience Research Center (CRNL)

Department:

Description:

We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join our Sleep Team at the CRNL Lyon (Centre de Recherche en Neurosciences de Lyon) to study the neuronal dynamics underpinning the storage of emotional memories during sleep.

Our team values diversity and welcomes researchers from all backgrounds. We encourage candidates whose project ideas align with our research focus to get in touch with us.

Research Topics

We are interested in understanding how neuronal circuits in emotion-related regions, including the amygdala and prefrontal cortex, store emotional information during sleep stages. Additionally, we aim to understand how these dynamics are perturbed in murine models related to sleep and affective disorders, such as cataplexy and post-traumatic stress disorder. To investigate these topics, we employ cutting-edge technologies including 2-photon imaging in sleeping mice, optogenetics, electrophysiology, genetic targeting strategies, behavioral approaches, and deep anatomical analysis. For further reference, see Peyron et al., Nat. Med. 2000; Sapin et al., PLOS ONE 2011; Aime et al., Science 2022; Aime, Science 2023.

Desired Profile

We are seeking a candidate with a recent doctoral degree (PhD) in neuroscience, neuro-engineering, or data science, and a proven publication history in these fields. Applicants with previous experience in rodent stereotaxic surgery, optogenetics, in vitro/vivo electrophysiology, in vivo calcium imaging (2PLSM, miniscope..), behavioral analysis (e.g., sleep, instrumental learning, reward, fear learning), or computational skills are highly desirable. Experience with signal analysis and computer programming (Matlab, Python) is required. Excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team, and the aptitude to mentor undergraduate and graduate students are also necessary attributes.

The Research Center

The Lyon Neuroscience Research Center (CRNL) is dedicated to exploring the central nervous system, cognitive functions, and brain disorders. Its activities focus on key aspects such as perception, attention, memory, sleep, emotions, and social cognition. Our research integrates genetic, cellular, behavioral, and clinical approaches to understand brain function, develop diagnostic markers, and create innovative therapies.

Located at the East Hospital Center of Lyon, the CRNL has approximately 450 multidisciplinary experts. Our facilities include 18 research teams and 14 technical platforms. Notably, the “Neurocampus Michel Jouvet” hosts 9 teams and 6 platforms, providing a collaborative environment conducive to innovation in Neuroscience.

You will join the SLEEP team, which focuses on characterizing sleep phases, analyzing neural networks, and investigating disorders such as narcolepsy and REM sleep disorders. Our projects explore a variety of techniques in rats and transgenic mice. Our team, led by Christelle Peyron and Pierre-Hervé Luppi, comprises multidisciplinary researchers engaged in integrative projects aligned with the CRNL objectives.
