Job ID: 120351
Researcher wanted in Neural Computation in Active Vision (MSc or PhD level)
Position: Ph.D. Student
Deadline: 30 October 2024
Employment Start Date: 1 January 2025
Contract Length: 2 years
City: Alicante
Country: Spain
Institution: Instituto de Neurociencias
Department: Lab 209
Description:
We are seeking a researcher to explore the neurocomputational mechanisms of biological visual attention and distractor networks in the Kardamakis lab at the Neuroscience Institute in Alicante (Spain). This project leverages cutting-edge advances in electrophysiology and machine learning applied to a novel visual stimulus-behavioural setup in behaving mice.
The candidate will have the opportunity to work together with our team to obtain extensive hands-on experience in developing and managing multi-modal experimental setups, synchronizing diverse data modalities -such as visual stimulation in virtual reality and eye tracking – together with large-scale Neuropixel recordings. The primary goal will be to model activity dynamics in the brain—specifically in the superior colliculus, frontal cortex, and substantia nigra—at cellular resolution, and to investigate their roles in routing visual distractions and mediating visual attention during motivated behavior.
Candidates should exhibit a strong background in quantitative fields such as Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or Computer Science while having a basic understanding of neuroscience.
This opportunity is open to candidates with an MSc, PhD, or equivalent experience.
Please include:
- a short cover letter (max 1 page)
- detailed CV
- the names of two references
