Advancing Alzheimer’s Disease Research Through Cutting-Edge Spatial Sequencing of Human Brain Tissue | Postdoctoral Research Position

Position: Post-doctoral Position

Deadline: 20 October 2024

Employment Start Date: 1 November 2024

Contract Length: 2 years

City: Lund

Country: Sweden

Institution: Lund University

Department: Wallenberg Neuroscience Center, Molecular Neuromodulation

Description:

The Molecular Neuromodulation group at the Wallenberg Neuroscience Center, Lund University, is seeking a dedicated postdoctoral researcher to join our pioneering team focused on neurodegenerative disease research and therapies. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop and apply cutting-edge spatial sequencing technologies to investigate the molecular changes associated with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

The Opportunity

In this role, you will spearhead the development, optimization, and validation of innovative molecular technologies aimed at sequencing the spatially resolved transcriptome of human brain samples. Employing techniques ranging from millimeter-scale imaging down to subcellular resolution, you will create comprehensive maps of gene expression within affected brain regions. Collaborating closely with experts in machine learning and imaging, you will contribute to AI-driven approaches designed to understand disease progression and identify novel therapeutic targets.

Why This Matters

Alzheimer’s disease remains one of the most challenging neurodegenerative disorders, with limited understanding of its progression at the molecular level. Your research will break new ground by:

Revealing Hidden Patterns: Uncovering spatial gene expression changes
that traditional sequencing methods may overlook.

Accelerating Drug Discovery: Identifying novel molecular targets for
therapeutic intervention.

Enhancing Predictive Models: Contributing to AI-driven approaches that can
forecast disease progression and patient outcomes.

By contributing to these areas, your work has the potential to pave the way for new therapeutic strategies, ultimately improving the lives of those affected by neurodegenerative disorders.

Collaborate and Innovate

Join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team where your molecular biology expertise will be complemented by collaborations with leading machine learning and imaging specialists. Together, you will push the boundaries of neuroscience research, combining spatial transcriptomics with advanced computational models to tackle one of the most pressing health challenges of our time.

Qualifications

Educational Background: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field with a significant focus on molecular biology, single-cell, or spatial transcriptomics.

Research Experience: Proven track record of internationally competitive research, demonstrated by publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.

Technical Expertise: Documented experience in single-cell or spatial sequencing is highly meritorious.

Eligibility Requirements:

•Ph.D. obtained within the last three years.

•Must not have held positions at Lund University within the last two years.

Collaborative Skills: Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Innovation and Initiative: Interest in developing and applying new methodologies in neuroscience research.

What We Offer

Advanced Facilities: Access to state-of-the-art laboratories and equipment at the Wallenberg Neuroscience Center.

Professional Growth: Opportunities to publish research findings and present at international conferences.

Supportive Culture: A collaborative environment that values mentorship, innovation, and scientific excellence.
