Postdoc fellowship Synaptic plasticity
Position: Post-doctoral Position
Deadline: 15 November 2024
Employment Start Date: 1 January 2025
Contract Length: 2 years

Description:
Description:
A 2-year postdoc fellowship (with possibility of extension) is available in the Lindskog lab at Uppsala University. We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join our team to study the interactions between different forms of synaptic plasticity and their importance in cognitive and emotional behavior.
Research project:
The Lindskog lab is interested in the regulation of synaptic strength and is especially curious about the astrocyte-synapse interaction. We are investigating synaptic plasticity in different animal models of depression and in response to known and potential antidepressant treatments. In animal models of Alzheimer’s disease, we are focusing on the early stages of the disease and the synaptic mechanisms of emotional symptoms. Our main methods are slice electrophysiology, immunohistochemistry and animal behavior. In this project, the successful candidate will study different forms of plasticity and their interactions. One particular question is how plasticity can be targeted to treat depressive-like symptoms, and whether restoring synaptic balance early can slow down the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
Profile desired:
We are looking for a candidate who shares our passion for synaptic plasticity and who wants to investigate complex interactions. You should have a recent doctoral degree (PhD) in neuroscience and a proven publication history using electrophysiology in slices and/or in vivo. Experience with animal surgery and viral transduction is desirable. Excellent written and oral communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team and the capacity to mentor undergraduate and graduate students are also necessary attributes.
You apply by sending an email with a motivation letter and CV to mia.lindskog@uu.se Write Postdoc application as subject.
