We are recruiting in our next PhD call a group of PhD students who are interested to persue ground-breaking biomedical related research, and we will help them to lay the groundwork to establish themselves as experts and scientific leaders in their chosen field.
Our university is a hub for international basic and applied research at the heart of Vienna. We welcome innovative thinkers from fields such as neuroscience, immunolgy, engineering, computer science, mathematics, medical physics, life sciences and beyond. Below is a list of the current PhD projects available:
Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning:
- From neurons to the whole brain: Developing a unified computational model of single-neuron activity across multiple brain regions
- Advanced AI models for Neuroprosthetics: Understanding the neural control of primate locomotion using foundation models

- Acute heart failure and the course of decongestion
- Uncovering TRP channel regulation at the all atom resolution using computational approaches

- Pharmacology of Opioid Peptides
- The role of neutrophils and immunothrombotic processes in liver regeneration
- Mapping the Signaling Network of Muscle-Specific Kinase

Eligibility Criteria:
You must hold a Master´s degree (or will be rewarded with a degree within the next six months) from an accredited university.
Proficiency in English at a minimum C1 level (Proof of language proficiency is required upon admission only)
Benefits:
As a PhD student, you will be fully integrated into our dynamic research team and employed by the university. Your initial contract will be for one year, with the option to extend it for the duration of your training, typically three to four years.
Your salary will be competitive, aligned with the Austrian collective agreement for university employees and researchers or based on the FWF salary agreement. All employees are entitled to comprehensive social health insurance and participate in the public pension scheme, ensuring your future is secure.
