Postdoctoral position in neurobiology of obesity

Position: Post-doctoral Position

Deadline: 28 February 2025

City: Montreal

Country: Canada

Institution: McGill University

Department: Department of Medicine

Description:

The Kokoeva lab (McGill University, Dept. Medicine) is seeking a postdoctoral fellow for a project on the role of pericytes in energy balance and blood-brain barrier regulation. The project will build on previous work showing that a subset of the brain’s blood vessel-enwrapping pericytes express the leptin receptor and that these pericytes regulate leptin access to the brain parenchyma (Butiaeva et al. Cell Metab 2021). The proposed work aims to elucidate the mechanism of how leptin’s pericytic action affects BBB permeability. The work will be centered on intravital imaging and genetic manipulation of LepR pericytes at central and peripheral blood vessels. These studies will likely provide insights on how obesity-induced hyperleptinemia can contribute to some of the well-known obesity co-morbidities. Preference will be given to candidates with a good publication record, experience in murine neurosurgery, mouse genetics, and/or neurophysiology. However, highly motivated individuals with less experience will also be considered. The position may require a commitment for 3-5 years. Interested applicants should send a CV and motivational cover letter expressing their interests as well as names of at least two references to maia.kokoeva@mcgill.ca.
