The laboratory of Prof. Natalia Kononenko at the University of Cologne (Medical Faculty, Center for Physiology & CECAD Research Center) is seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join the RTG 2550 to investigate the roles of endocytosis in neurons, with a focus on mechanisms underlying neuronal health and neurodegenerative disease. This project will utilize advanced mouse models, live imaging and biochemistry approaches, primary neuron culture, providing an excellent opportunity to engage in cutting-edge neurobiology research.
Key Responsibilities:
· Conduct research using mouse models to study neuronal roles of endocytosis.
· Perform lab-based experiments, including managing mouse colony, mouse behaviour and histological brain analyses, live imaging and biochemistry assays in primary cell culture, electron microscopy etc.
· Maintain accurate lab records and present findings clearly in meetings.
Requirements:
· Master’s degree in Neuroscience, Cell Biology and/or Biochemistry (with excellent to very good grades)
· Experience in techniques such as rodent neurodegeneration models, primary cell culture, in vivo surgery, immunohistochemistry, microscopy and image analysis, and biochemical assays.
· Motivation to advance neurodegenerative disease research.
· Proficiency in English
· Excellent organizational skills; proactive, enthusiastic, and willing to learn.
