As a postdoctoral fellow at one of Europe’s leading university hospitals, you will have the opportunity to independently pursue a research project in the field of neuroimmunology and thus lay the foundation for a successful career in biomedical research.
The research groups within the DFG Research Unit FOR 5705 “NeuroFlame – Defence and demise of inflamed neurons” investigate the neurobiological consequences of neuroinflammatory diseases, such as multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease (see: Woo et al, Nat Rev Neurosci. 2024 Jul;25(7):493-513. doi: 10.1038/s41583-024-00823-z).
Your tasks:
- Working on a research project in the field of neuroimmunology. The focus here is on the development of neuroprotective strategies to limit neuronal damage during neuroinflammation.
- Development of independent research strategies and control of realization

- Independent genetic, molecular biological or cellular research project on neuroprotective mechanisms in inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system at one of the participating institutes of the UKE: Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Molecular Neurogenetics, Neuroimmunology and Multiple Sclerosis (INIMS), Neuropathology, Cellular and Integrative Physiology, Leibniz Group Dendritic organelles and Synaptic Function
- Opportunity to further develop your scientific skills with the aim of designing independent research strategies in patient- and basic research-oriented neuroimmunological research
- National and international networking with leading scientists in the field of neuroimmunology through direct collaboration within the research unit (see DFG website)
Your profile:
- Completed scientific university degree in biology, biomedicine, biochemistry or a related field of life sciences along with a doctorate/ PhD
- Prerequisite: Good knowledge in the field of neurology, neurobiology, immunology or neuroimmunology
- Advantageous: “Postdoc” time at a neurobiologically or immunologically oriented research institution; documentation of scientific achievements through publications; bioinformatic knowledge
- Very good written and spoken English, proficient in MS Office
- Strong scientific interest in molecular and cell biological research of medical relevance
- Ability to work in a team and a determined way of working
