Fondazione EBRI Rita Levi-Montalcini, established in 2005 by Nobel Prize winner Rita Levi-Montalcini, is dedicated to fundamental brain research in Italy. The European Brain Research Institute focuses on studying the biological basis of higher brain functions in mammals, including the relationships between mind and brain and memory mechanisms. EBRI utilizes cutting-edge technologies such as genetics, molecular biology, neurophysiology, cellular and molecular imaging, computational and informatics sciences, and behavioral studies, as well as emerging genomic and proteomic technologies.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for at least 1 Postdoctoral Researchers at Fondazione EBRI Rita Levi-Montalcini in Rome.

The Postdoctoral Researcher (Post Doc) will be responsible for conducting research on a very exciting project funded by the European Community for 4.5 years.

The project aim is to validate a novel biomarker for early detection of Parkinson’s patients.

The Post Doc will have the chance to work in a multidisciplinary environment created by the 13 european partners.

In EBRI, the Post Doc will work to elucidate biological mechanisms associated with a-synuclein aggregation by characterizing a set of novel antibodies, trying to explain the role of diverse protein modifications like SUMOylation, Ubiquitination, and others. The studies will be conducted by using primary cell culture, iPS derived from PBMC extracted by patients, and using human brain specimens. Tasks will involve utilizing of technologies like genetics, molecular biology, cellular biology, and confocal imaging.

Qualifications

  • Laboratory Skills: Data analysis and practical laboratory experience
  • Techniques required:

Cell culture (neuronal primary from rodents, iPS from humans)

Cell transfections, viral infection

Immunohystochemistry, immunostaining, fluorescence from fixed brain samples, PLA, RNAscope

Protein extraction from frozen tissues and electrophoresis analyses (WB, 2D gels etc)

Plasmids preparation, Virus (Lentivirals, AAV) for cell infections

Production and purification of proteins in bacterial cells (GST-tagged, etc…)

Confocal Imaging skills (super resolutions, confocal)

  • Research Skills should include: Ability to conduct independent research and analyze data
  • Strong background in neuroscience, biology, or related fields
  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Biology, Physics, or related discipline

Position

  • The starting date will be on May 2025 and will last for 1year and renewable upon funds availability
  • Salary: depending on the skill levels will be between €27k and €30k/year before taxes
  • Contract: Fellowship
  • In case an additional Post Doc is needed, the candidate will be selected from the same CVs received
