Description:
The Melzer Lab at the Center for Brain Research in Vienna (Austria) is seeking a highly motivated, well-organized and reliable research technician/assistant who is curious to learn about the neuronal mechanisms of fear, anxiety, learning and memory. We use cutting-edge techniques to visualize and dissect neuronal processes in the brain of mice in combination with diverse behavioral testing paradigms. As a research technician/assistant, you will work closely with other lab members, and support ongoing projects to identify novel functions of defined neuronal circuits and signaling molecules. The position is fully funded by an ongoing ERC grant.
Main techniques and tasks:
Immunostainings, in situ hybridizations, mouse brain dissections and slicing, microscope imaging, mouse handling, mouse behavioral experiments, support with general lab management (ordering, maintenance, database management)
REQUIREMENTS
- BSc OR training as MTA, CTA or BTA in Biology or related field (for non-EU citizens: work visa application and a MSc-equivalent degree are required)
- Experience with basic lab techniques such as pipetting, dissecting, slicing, animal handling
- Good organizational skills, high reliability
- Attention to details
- Good ability to write and read in English
- FELASA certificate (or equivalent) is an advantage
WHAT WE OFFER
Paid full-time (40hrs/week) research technician/assistant position for 1-2 years. The start date is flexible, preferably in July 2025. The starting annual gross salary will be at least EUR 31,000 (depending on the candidate’s qualifications, education and work experience). The lab is led by Prof. Dr. Sarah Melzer, a new group leader at MedUni Vienna who brings extensive postdoctoral research experience from Harvard Medical School and multiple international research experiences from Germany, Japan, the Netherlands and UK.
