Position: Technician

Deadline: 31 October 2025

Employment Start Date: 1 September 2025

Contract Length: 1 year renewable

City: Bordeaux

Country: France

Institution: INSERM 1215 Neurocentre Magendie

Description:

The research team led by Dr. Giovanni Marsicano at the NeuroCentre Magendie (INSERM U1215) in Bordeaux is seeking a motivated and skilled Research Technician to join a multidisciplinary group investigating the role of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in brain function. Since its establishment in 2006, the team has focused on cell-type- and compartment-specific signaling mechanisms, combining molecular biology, histology, genetics, and behavioral neuroscience to explore how cannabinoid receptors—particularly CB₁—modulate synaptic activity, neuroglial interactions, mitochondrial function, energy metabolism, and behavior.

Position Summary

We are looking for a technician with qualifications equivalent to an Assistant Engineer in Neurobiology to support ongoing projects funded by national and European research agencies (ANR, FRM, EU). These projects aim to elucidate how the ECS regulates a range of cognitive and behavioral functions—including memory, motivation, feeding, stress adaptation, and associative processes—via its action on distinct brain cell types (neurons, astrocytes, etc.).

The successful candidate will contribute to a variety of research activities, with an emphasis on histological and molecular analyses. Key responsibilities include:

  • Tissue preparation (perfusion, brain sectioning)

  • Immunohistochemistry and imaging

  • Molecular biology techniques

  • Participation in experimental reporting and data organization
Additionally, the candidate will support general laboratory operations, including basic administrative and budget-related tasks.

Profile and Requirements

  • Proven laboratory experience with a strong focus on immunohistochemistry

  • Familiarity with histological techniques and molecular biology tools

  • Proficiency in both written and spoken French and English

  • Certification in Animal Experimentation Level 1 (France) is a strong advantage

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
