Job ID: 123521

PhD and Post doctoral positions, electrophysiology and in vivo imaging

Position: Ph.D. Student

Deadline: 31 August 2026

City: Haifa

Country: Israel

Institution: University of Haifa

Department: Neuroscience

Description:

We invite applications for PhD, postdoctoral, and lab manager positions in the newly established laboratory of Dr. Luna Jammal Salameh at the University of Haifa, Israel.

The lab investigates the neurobiology of interoception: how the brain senses and decodes internal bodily signals to influence behavior. Our goal is to unravel the brain-body dialogue by exploring interoceptive mechanisms across multiple spatial and temporal scales.

Our research integrates a variety of advanced techniques, including in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology, calcium imaging (microendoscopic and multiphoton), behavioral testing in animal models, optogenetics, and computational analysis.

The lab is supported by the Beresheet ISF grant and the VATAT Early Career Excellence grant, providing a well-funded and collaborative research environment.

We are seeking motivated and curious individuals with backgrounds in neuroscience, biology, physiology, or related disciplines. Experience in electrophysiology, imaging, computational neuroscience, or programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB) is desirable. Strong communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team, and fluency in English are essential.

Selected candidates will benefit from close mentorship, access to state-of-the-art tools, and the opportunity to contribute to innovative research at the intersection of brain and body.

Positions remain open until filled, but priority will be given to applications received before October 1st, 2025.

Applications should include:

  1. A cover letter outlining research interests and career goals

  2. Curriculum vitae (CV)

  3. Two academic recommendation letters

Applications and inquiries should be sent to Dr. Luna Jammal Salameh at: ljammal@sci.haifa.ac.il
