Postdoctoral position – Brain circuits of Behavioral States

Linköping University, Sweden

JOIN US

We are seeking a curious and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the Calvigioni Lab at the Center for Social and Affective Neuroscience (CSAN), Linköping University, Sweden.

OUR MISSION

How does the brain shape emotional states? Why are some individuals resilient to stress while others are vulnerable to anxiety or depression?

At the Calvigioni Lab, we investigate the neural circuits underlying emotional behaviors and mental resilience. Our goal is to understand how hormones, neural activity, and life experiences interact across development to shape brain function and behavior.

Our interdisciplinary research spans systems neuroscience, molecular biology, and neuroendocrinology. We use cutting-edge approaches to explore how emotional valence is encoded by single neurons and how circuit-level dynamics drive behavioral transitions.

The postdoctoral researcher will investigate the development and function of emotion-related brain circuits using: Genetic mouse models; Intersectional viral strategies; Stereotactic surgeries; In vivo optogenetic/chemogenetic manipulations; Behavioral assay; Molecular and neuroanatomical analyses. The project also involves single-cell molecular and functional profiling techniques such as in vivo/ex vivo imaging. Our recent work lays the foundation for our research strategy (Calvigioni et al., Nature Neuroscience, 2023).

YOUR PROFILE
We are looking for a creative and independent scientist with a strong interest in brain circuits and behavior. Previous experience in the study of neuronal circuits in rodent models is preferred but not essential. Candidates with experience in anatomical tracing/behavior/electrophysiology and/or imaging techniques will be prioritized. Experience with slice electrophysiology/ in vivo experiments/ neuroendocrinology/ RNA-sequencing and advanced data analysis will be positively evaluated.

A curious mind, positive attitude, high motivation, and analytical approach to independent problem-solving are essential.
