Founded by Heirich Spoendlin the Inner Ear Lab in Innsbruck research focuses on comparative aspects between human and animal inner ears and include following topics: Morphological-mechanical as well as the molecular basis of auditory sensing and processing from light- to electron microscopic level. Tissue engineering of inner ear explants and cell models for auditory research. Auditory aging neurobiology ∙regeneration of the auditory nerve ∙ toxicity and trauma evaluation ∙ inner ear genetic disorders with focus on human specimens∙strategies for cochlear implant improvements and vestibular implantation realization ∙pharmaceutical treatment of inner ear disorders including nanocarriers.
